What interested me was the way this was presented in a context: disco as an offshoot of funk and soul. There are some really great deep cuts. But I would have liked to have seen some of the more common tracks like Backstabbers, Shaft, Everyday People, Loves Theme, Get Ready scrapped in favor of some deeper ones like Sexy Mama by Moments, Do It by Miracles, My Imagination by Gladys Knight, Yes.

Freedom toured throughout the South with the top funk bands: the Bar Kays, Con Funk Shun, Cameo, SOS Band, Graham Central Station, and Lakeside. Malaco didn't break the bank promoting the single or the album and both failed to register nationally, but the tune didn't escape Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five 's ears.
